Sophie’s World at Musical Frühling Gmunden 2017

Start of rehearsals for Sophie’s World (Sofies Welt) at Musical Frühling in Gmunden.

The Norwegian success musical Sophie’s World is once again a work that is still largely unknown in the theatre scene but highly praised. The story is based on Jostein Gaarder’s novel, which takes the audience on a philosophical, as well as funny and thoroughly turbulent journey. The music comes from the pen of the Norwegian composer Gisle Kverndokk, the libretto by Øystein Wiik. At this year’s Festival in Gmunden a revision of this work will be shown. Top-class performers and an orchestra under the direction of Caspar Richter guarantee musical entertainment on the highest level.Sofies Welt

The Secret Garden Austria

I’m very excited to choreograph for the Austrian premiere of The Secret Garden (Der Geheime Garten) running from 11th March at Stadtheater Gmunden!

The musical The Secret Garden is based on the 1911 novel of the same name by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The script and lyrics are by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon.

The Story

Young Mary Lennox loses her parents to a cholera outbreak in India and is sent to live with her uncle, hermit Archibald Craven. He lives in an imposing, secluded manor on the British heath. Inside the haunting house upon the hill, Mary finds a reclusive, long-suffering collection of souls.

Since her aunt Lily’s death, Mary’s uncle has pushed away his surviving loved ones, such as leaving his bedridden son, Colin, alone. Sickly Colin, hidden away in the depths of the manner, bears the guilt of his mother’s death on his crippled shoulders. When Mary discovers her Aunt Lily’s hidden garden, which is locked shot and overgrown with vines, she is determined to revive its forgotten beauty. Surrounded by spirits from the past, who both warn and welcome her, Mary begins to peel away the layers of sadness that cover the house and the garden, and showing us the power that “one small girl” can have when she “wants things to grow.”
